“When Lucas got invited to join Biblio-TECH during the start of the quarantine, we jumped at the chance! It was win-win: it would be a chance for Lucas to flex his brain muscles and interact with kids his age aside from his online distance learning. During their first meeting Lucas hit it off with his book club mates and his teachers (mom-and-daughter team Teacher Justine and Clea and Head Teacher Rosanna). They unanimously picked "The Quest for the Diamond Sword," a Minecraft novelette and it didn't take much prodding for Lucas to finish reading the book! The book club assignments were very unique and taught the children to be creative: make a weapon from the novel, re-imagine or change a part of the story, choose your favorite setting and re-create it on Minecraft and the last task: tell a story through the point of view of another person/object. These were opportunities for the kids' imagination to soar! Their teachers expertly guided the book club meetings and hearing the squeals of laughter from Lucas was also so much fun! He really looked forward to these meetings because they were a welcome break from his online distance learning which he said wasn't as fun as his book club meetings! The best testimony is from Lucas who, after each meeting, would rave about how much fun he had and lamented on how sad he was that it was their last session.”
